This weekend saw the Jaguars against familiar faces Woburn and Wavendon Clarets. Both sides have faced each other in the last 2 U11 trophy matches, both games being close affairs.
With Woburn’s grass pitch under repair the sides met at Glebe farm school on the astroturf.
With a strong wind giving an advantage one way, Woburn took the advantage in the first half.
Woburn started quickly looking to put the Jaguars under pressure from the off. They were quick to the tackle and the Jags knew quickly they were in the game.
Whilst on top, Woburn didn’t really create many clear cut chances, with Marcelina and the defence staying strong.
Woburn did take the league when a long range shot found the corner leaving the Marcelina with no chance.
The goal was the first goal conceded this season, but the girls didn’t let that bother them. They didn’t let their heads drop and they tried to get themselves going. Sienna, Izzy, Tianna, Hannah and Tilly tried to spread the game a little, but Woburn probably just edged the rest of the half. But as the half wore on the Jags won a corner, the much Tianna whipped into the box and Woburn just couldn’t deal with it. Sienna alive to the situation and she stabbed home the equaliser sending the Jags in level at half time.
At half time, the coaches spoke about keeping our cool, taking a bit more time to relax on the ball. With the advantage of the wind now with us, we could look to take advantage.
The second half started much better for the jags as they stretched Woburn. Isla and Jessie putting in some heavy work chasing down every ball.
Bella, Esme, Alyssia, Ella and Arianna all helped steady the ship whenever Woburn threatened ensuring we remained on top.
The jags were then rewarded when Jessie reacted quickest in the box to slot hope a beautifully placed shot from near the penalty spot 2-1 Jags!
Woburn tried to push for an equaliser as the game wore on, but the Jags were a constant threat down the wings, with Isla, Izzy and Sienna constantly stretching them!
Woburn did have a couple of opportuntiies but Bella and Arianna threw their bodies in the way whenever needed to keep the clarets at bay!
2-1 the game finished and the Jags stay unbeaten so far this season!
POTM was given to Sienna for her constant threat down the wings. Coaches player being given the Bella for some outstanding last ditch defending.
Next week we face Luton – another of the top teams in the league!
Gritty performance which may not have been pretty at times, but the girls dug in and got it done!
