Jaguars take on Leighton United Vixens

This weekend saw the Jaguars up against Leighton United Vixens. Leighton United have competed in the top trophy for the last two events, so we knew we were in for a game.

The Jags squad included Marcelina, Bella, Esme, Isla, Esther, Sienna, Tianna, Savannah and Jessie.Leighton started the game brightly, but the Jags defended stoutly and when the defence was breached Marcelina was there to save the day.

Leighton did take the lead when a quick break saw their stand out midfield unleash a power drive with clipped off the bar as it went in. The rest of the quarter was more even, but there were no real clear chances and the score remained the same.

At the start of the second, the Jags came out all guns blazing, the girls showed much more attacking intent as the closed down the Leighton players all over the pitch. The quarter was near perfect from the girls, with the only thing missing a goal. By the end of the quarter the scoreline remained the same.

The Jags coaches were delighted with the quarter and asked the girls to continue what they were doing as they headed into quarter 3. Leighton came out the stronger side in the 3rd and were rewarded when another long range strike rocketed into the goal! The jags were rocked but continued to battle.

Q4 was pretty even again, but with the Jags looking for a goal, Leighton grabbed a goal. The Jags had a few chances themselves but they were just unable to convert one.

The game finished with the Jags coaches proud of the effort the girls had put in. We cant win them all – but as long as we leave everything on the grass that is all the coaches can ask.

I know I have said it before – but this is our first season together and in games like this against tough opponents, its amazing to see them give such a good show for themselves They should all be very proud!

Player of the Match as voted by our opponents was Marcelina for a number of solid saves.

The next 2 games see us play more top trophy opponents – so the games don’t get any easier – but we shall continue to learn, both on and off the pitch!

As always the game was complimented by amazing support!
