After yet another forced break due to the weather last week, the Lynxes were back playing, lining up against AFC Dunstable. Back with a full squad with everyone fighting fit, the team was coming off a mini-downturn of form, having not won in 3 games.
The first goal came early at the start of the match, a quick long clearance from Sophie in goal passed most of the opposition players and landed for Amber to run on and slot home. From here the flood gates opened and the Lynxes players scored more and more. In the end Amber hit Dunstable for six, and Chloe, Grace, Belle and Aoife all got a goal.
Due to squad size and epic performances, two POTM medals were awarded to Lynx players. Chloe got one for her tireless performance coming off the back of her focused applied effort in training. The other POTM went to Lilly. Due to health reasons, Lilly has been unable to attend training and matches recently. It would be normal for a player to come back a bit rusty. However, she put in a really strong performance and skipped past her counterparts at will.
At the death, with the result beyond any doubt Dunstable broke and drove a low powerful shot into the bottom corner. Clearly conceding a goal here would be no more than a consolidation goal for the away team. However, Sophie was not willing to give up her clean sheet and pulled out a worldie save, diving to the floor and stretching wide, somehow managing to keep the ball out of her net.
The game ended a resolute 10-0. Although the opposition were low on numbers due to illness, take nothing away from the Lynxes who were ruthless. This game turned out to be a perfect warmup for the visit of league leaders Luton Town next week.
