Lynxes Class Shines Through to Overcome Formidable Opponent Luton Town

The Lynxes played league leaders Luton Town Lancasters at home today. The Lynxes were encouraged, having been the only team to take points from them this season, in the reverse fixture when we earned a hard fought draw.

From the start it was a great competitive match. Chances where at a premium, with fantastic battles all over the pitch. During the first half the defence stood firm, consisting of Ava at centre back, Lucy and Sarayah full backs, and Annabelle CDM. With Amber in goal she refused to let slip any shot that came near her goal. Going into the break all square at nil-nil and for a well earned break.

After the break chances were being created by Lynxes, with Amelie shooting at the keeper, Grace was on hand to bundle the goal over the line. One nil. Resetting the game continued as it had been up to this point. Before too long the opposition broke through and equalised so back level.

With 10 minutes of play left, a decision had to be made. Keep our excellent keeper in goal and play for the draw. Or bring our number one scorer out onto the pitch. Amelie stepped up and put the gloves on, putting in a fine confident display in goal, coming out and collecting anything that came near.

Now one was settling for a draw in this tense match, with fouls were being committed by both sides. With time running out Chloe was hauled down for a free kick, a few yards from the penalty box. Up steps Amber with eyes firmly set on goal. She strikes the ball which goes over the defensive wall and then drops sweetly into the top right corner, leaving the keeper no chance, sending the players, coaches and parents into rapturous applause. Two one. With 2 minutes left to see out, Chloe went from left wing to support the defence to see out the result.

Full time. The Lynxes had not only done what no team had done to Luton in taking points from them. They had beaten this extremely experienced opponent. POTM the match went to Amber for both her role in goal and getting the winner, and Annabelle who’s confidence has grown all season and showed here. One other special mention goes to Sarayah, who put here heart and soul into her performance at right back all match.

These players had given everything they could and made their coaches so proud of the effort well done. Next up Luton Town again in the league cup!
