Pumas take on MK United Panthers

Today the Pumas travelled away to MK United Panthers whose pitch would be a close rival for the Pumas home ground as best pitch in the league.
The coaches hopes were high after seeing the beautiful playing surface that would suit the Pumas playing style perfectly.

With the title wrapped up last week the coaches opted for a different formation with a few players playing in new positions.

The first half was not going to plan for the Pumas and they reverted back to their favoured formation.

There were a few testing moments in the first half where Panthers almost made it through a defence that had only previously conceded 17 goals but the solid defending from today’s captain and her counterparts could not be beaten, and even when it was an in form Maddie was there to protect her goal.

With the Pumas always looking to play out from the back there is always a risk that comes with the reward. Panthers were onto this game plan and pressed quickly late in the first half, catching the defence and somehow lobbing the keeper.

Halftime, a drinks break and a team talk, time to regroup and remind the players how good they can play and that we have not finished the season just because the league is won.

Second half and Pumas were a bit more recognisable playing a better passing game and keeping ball on floor better.
The away fans clearly upbeat thinking they were on course to upset the champions.

However the Pumas said ‘not today’ and started the comeback, something which was new for them having usually been leading in nearly all games.

Allegra picked up the ball near the halfway line and ran nearly the whole half taking on at least 3 panther players before finding the back of the net, 1-1, away fans less vocal, maybe they could tell they’d upset the bigger cats.

With Belle playing more advanced on the left wing she was making ease of the attacks, this was the player the coaches had waited all season for.

With a corner coming from one of the Puma attacks it was a whipped in corner from Bella that blythe flicked over the defender and would find belle on the back post for an easy tap in.

Away fans getting quieter by the minute, however there were a few nervy moments that Pumas nearly got caught on the counter attack had it not been for the great saves of the in form keeper. Probably the most action Maddie had seen all season but dealt with everything well.

It was now Bellas turn to finally silence the away fans picking up a pass from Blythe and running through on goal to finish well, 3-1 Pumas and the girls were now in full ‘time management’ mode.

Final whistle and comeback complete.
