After a great start to the season, the girls were raring to go for their next home game against MK City Topaz. Playing a year up for the majority of the Pumas has its challenges and as the girls lined up ready to kick off – the size difference was visible.
Pumas started the game slow, with MK City putting up a good line of defence, Pumas struggled to break through and for the first half the game it was fairly equal with neither side creating many opportunities on goal.
Half time enabled the Pumas to reflect and realise that they needed to play as a team, pass and release the ball quicker to create those chances. The second half started with a stronger and more in tune back line with Maddie making some great decisions and pulling off some top notch saves. Leah captained the team confidently offering constant support to her teammates. There was no stopping Brooke as she made tackle after tackle on girls double her size, nipping at their ankles and stealing the ball.
The midfield looked for the right pass, playing 3 touch football to move to ball higher up the pitch into the final quarter. An unfortunate cross from Belle to Allegra saw the ball hit the inside of crossbar and drop down just outside of the goal. It was coming! Finally, with some excellent build up play and passes between the midfield and forwards Allegra was able to break free and score! Another goal from Grace allowed both the team and coaches to relax!
The girls continued to play with renewed confidence breaking down the opposition, a foul in the box gave the Pumas another goal with Grace driving home the penalty.
Final score 3 – 0
