Tigers left wondering what they have to do!

On Saturday the Tigers welcomed Woburn to Van Dyke.

The game kicked off with the Tigers flying out of the blocks and stamping their authority on the game. This early burst of pressure resulted in numerous chances for the hosts which were unfortunately not taken. Finally, a driving run from the back by Noomi, followed by an excellent through ball that was finished clinically by Marni.

The quarter somehow finished 1-0 to the Tigers, so when the girls came in for their quarter end team talk, they were instructed to keep doing the same.

The second quarter kicked off with a slight adjustment to the backline and midfield, but it made little change to the Tigers dominance.

Half way though the quarter, Woburn finally started to find their feet and offered the occasional dangerous attack. From one of these attacks, the Woburn forward was able to get off a snap shot which was saved by Carey, however the rebound was finished off to bring the scores level. Minutes later Woburn won a corner which was delivered into the box creating a scramble. The ball fell to the feet of a Woburn forward who smashed the ball home.

2-1 down at half time, somehow!

The third quarter was a much more even affair, with visitors continuing to have dangerous moments, one such moment saw Caitlin produce an outstanding save low down to her right from the visitors impressive number 60.

Towards the end of the third quarter the visitors had their best period of the match and just before the end of the quarter the number 60 curled a fantastic shot into the top corner giving Caitlin no chance.

The final quarter kicked off and although the visitors held a 2 goal lead, they knew that they were not safe. However, shortly into the fourth quarter another scramble in the box saw the visitors score their forth goal.

The Tigers may have been down on the score, but that did not deter them from driving on, a fantastic jinking run by Carey just went wide, Noomi was narrowly wide with a screamer and also just missed a cut back from Carey. Just before the final whistle Marni picked the ball just over the half way line and played the pass of the season, perfectly weighted and splitting two defenders the ball landed perfectly into Carey’s stride for her to finish the ball into the bottom corner.

I feel like a broken record at the moment as it seems that I continuously say that the girls have been amazing and did not deserve to lose. But what else can I say, they were fantastic, if they continue to play as well as they are it will not be long until they are back to winning ways!

Pom: Caitlin (played in 3 positions and was excellent in all of them).

Thanks to Coach Luke for the match report.
